¡@Gymnosperms

Twenty-eight gymnosperms are native to the Taiwan area, and 16 of them are endemic. Some species such as the Formosan amentotaxus, the Taiwan cow-tail fir, the Sargent juniper, the Lanyu maki and the Taiwan cycas are in danger of extinction because they occur only in very limited areas or because their numbers have been declining. They have been declared rare plant species under the Cultural Heritage Preservation Law to give them greater protection. In addition to its current plans for a comprehensive survey of gymnosperms, TESRI will also survey and assess the ecology of such gymnosperms as the Taiwan plumyew and the Sargent juniper, in the interests of appropriate conservation.
