Wetlands include lakes, marshes and other permanently or intermittently flooded areas. Their primary biological productivity is among the highest of any of the world's ecosystem. Despite Taiwan's small size, it has quite a number of wetland areas, including Yuanyang Lake, Takui Lake, Hsiaokui Lake, the Taoyuan lakelets, Kuantu Marsh, Luchou Island at Wuku, and coastal mangrove swamps.
TERSI's research into wetland ecologies currently centers on mangroves, their habital and their rehabilitation. We hope to gain an understanding of mangroves and the condition of their habitat in Taiwan, and research the rehabilitation of four-petaled mangrove and lumnitzera.
