¡@Coastal Ecosystems

Taiwan is surrounded by sea, and its highly scenic coastline is around 1,400km long.
The rich natural resources of the coastal regions are valuable in many ways, including in terms of ecological balance, economically, recreationally and for scientific research. But at present we lack comprehensive data on the distribution, populations and biology of coastal animal and plant species, on their matter and energy cycles and on the threats which face them, so that there is an urgent need for greater research. In view of this TESRI is currently surveying and researching the animal and plant life of the southwestern coast, and the threats facing it.
