¡@River Ecosystems

Rivers are the most important of Taiwan's inland bodies of water, and they also form an ecosystem which is highly representative of Taiwan's natural environment. Rivers provide habitats and breeding grounds for such organisms as fish, crustaceans, amphibians and aquatic insects, and they play an extremely inportant role in the water cycle. They are of great value for academic and ecological research.
Taiwan has around 130 major river. The gradual decline of Taiwan's river life in recent years is closely related to damage to river habitats. TESRI is currently conducting a survey of habitats within the Chuoshuo River basin and is reseaching ways of improving habitats in the Wushihkang River. How to improve the quality of the environment in each water catchment area, and maintain the diversity of river habitats and their animal and plant life, are among the most important topics in river conservation research. TESRI will be working hard in these directions in the future.
